How Much Weight Can a Ford F150 Tow? What Can It Tow?

The Ford F150 is an exceptionally versatile truck. It can do almost everything. Starting from carrying heavy-weight objects to towing, it can do it all.

When I wanted to pull a travel trailer with my F150, I went full-on researching about its ability to tow.

So how much weight can a Ford F150 Tow? The minimum towing capacity of the Ford F150 is 5000 pounds, while the maximum is 14000 pounds. But that is not the end of the story. The capacity varies for models, and years.

And in this article, I will discuss all of it.

What Is Towing Capacity?

First, I would like to ensure that you know what the towing capacity refers to. In a general sense, it would be the weight that the truck can pull safely.

That includes towing other vehicles, objects, and finally, a trailer, which I was mainly focusing on when I was researching the topic.

Secondly, when you talk about the towing capacity, you also need to consider a couple of factors.

The first one is the curb weight. It is the weight of the truck in its original form. That means the weight would refer to the car’s frame, along with standard equipment such as fuel tanks and other parts.

The second thing you would need to consider is the GCVWR. Do not confuse GCVWR with GVWR because two of the terms are not the same.

GVWR is the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, while GCVWR states the Gross Combined Weight Rating.

GVWR is a limit that will offer the knowledge of how much of a load you can put the truck through. On the other hand, the GCVWR will provide you with insight regarding the towing capacity.

However, do consider that the GVWR includes the weight of the passengers and all of the things attached to the vehicle.

Now, if you want to determine your truck’s towing capacity, you would need to deduct the curb weight from the GCVWR.

The number that you will find out after doing the subtraction will be the truck’s towing capacity.

Can a Ford F150 Tow a Camper?

The average weight of campers is around 6000 pounds. Some will be beyond that but let me just consider this number to give you a fair idea regarding whether the truck can tow a camper or not.

That being said, if you consider the maximum towing capacity of the F150s, they can tow up to 14000 pounds when equipped properly.

So, in a nutshell, an upgraded Ford F150 will be capable of towing a camper. And, if your truck comes with the max trailer tow package, it will be able to tow a camper weighing up to 14000 pounds.

Can a Ford F150 Tow an Airstream?

As you know by now, the towing capacity of each of the F-150 models is not the same.

Some can tow the trailers that are up to 9000 pounds, while some will have a limit of 5000 pounds. And, towing an airstream is not like pulling a regular camper or trailer. They are usually heavier.

Nevertheless, an upgraded and properly equipped Ford F-150 will surely pull most of the airstream travel trailers. Those campers are generally around 8000 pounds.

Can a Ford F150 Tow a Fifth Wheel?

A fifth wheel is generally large, but most will fall under the maximum towing capacity of the F150.

For that reason, it will be possible to pull one of these. But before you decide to attach a fifth wheel with your precious pickup truck, do consider the total load and the towing capacity of the vehicle.

Can a Ford F150 Pull a Car Trailer?

Some of the versions of F150 have a towing capacity of 14000 pounds. And with the right tow package and trim level, it will be possible to pull a car trailer easily.

But you should consider both the weight of the trailer and the loaded vehicles. Calculate it all and check whether it exceeds the towing limit or not.

Can a Ford F150 Tow a Travel Trailer?

Traveling trailers will generally be within the range of 6000 pounds to 8000 pounds. As they do not cross or come near the maximum towing limit of an upgraded F150, the truck will be able to tow one of those.

But do not forget to consider weight along with the things inside it when you plan to attach it with your truck.

Can a Ford F150 Tow a Boat?

I am pretty sure you have stumbled upon the scene where a pickup truck is towing a speed boat. Well, if you are wondering if your F150 can do the same or not, it absolutely can.

Even the heaviest speedboats are around 9000 pounds. And the highest capacity that F150 can pull is 14000 pounds. So, you should be all good.

Can a Ford F150 Pull a Skid Steer Bobcat?

Mini skid steer bobcats will be around 3000 pounds when they are empty. Even if you fill them up with stuff, they will not exceed the 5000 pounds of towing capacity that the lowest ranking F150 has in terms of towing.

Considering that, I would say that it will be totally possible to pull a skid steer bobcat with F150.

On the other hand, a full-size skid steer will be around 7500 pounds and can go up to 12000 pounds. So if you want to pull a full-size one, your F150 needs to have a capable towing package.

Can a Ford F150 Pull a Toy Hauler?

Toy haulers will be within the range of 5000 pounds to 10000 pounds. And the 2021+ 3.5L EcoBoost has the ability to tow up to 14000 pounds. So, if you own one of them, towing any toy hauler will not be a problem at all.

However, if you are rocking a 3.3L TI-VCT V6, you need to check the weight of the hauler beforehand because the maximum towing capacity of that version is just 8200 pounds.
